About

I’ve spent 35+ years in live television, from hands-on engineering in Wisconsin control rooms to senior leadership at EVS, where I work full time today.

What I do now

As SVP of Ecosystem & Communities Development at EVS, I work at the intersection of community, strategy and innovation. I turn what users and the wider industry are telling us into strategic direction, and I coach senior leaders on portfolio governance and long-range vision.

How I got here

I started with my hands on the gear. My early career was in Wisconsin broadcast: engineering, editing, replay and technical directing for local stations and sports venues, including the Green Bay Packers control room, much of it through my own company, PFLUG Productions.

Then I helped build a market. I joined EVS in 1999 and spent two decades growing its product and technical teams across the Americas, as part of the team that took leading product portfolios from 20% to 90% market share.

Now I work on the bigger picture. Since 2015 I’ve held global and regional leadership roles: creating EVS’s product marketing function, leading its market strategy, and running the Americas region, with a year at Vizrt in between.

How I work

I’m an enthusiast for video content and every part of the live experience. I’m a transparent person, and I work hard to build teamwork and collaboration. TV, and the media behind live content, is deep in my blood.

Outside of EVS

I’m full time at EVS, so my media industry consulting through PFLUG Media Consulting is on pause. What I write here is my own perspective on the trends and topics shaping live production.

At the moment, I’m interested in four things outside my role:

  • Non-profit boards: serving on boards where an operator’s view of strategy and governance can help.
  • Mentoring emerging professionals: helping people early in their careers find their next step.
  • Lean Portfolio Management outside media: portfolio governance and long-range vision for companies outside the media industry.
  • Apps and sites for youth sports and performance: consulting on and building apps, sites and user tools for youth sports and performance organizations.
